With great sorrow and profound sadness in our hearts, we announce the passing of Sylvia Alicia Herrada Ibacache, affectionately known as Mami Sylvia, who entered the presence of our Lord on July 5, 2025. At the age of 86, Sylvia left behind a deep void in the hearts of her family, friends, and the entire Christian community who had the privilege of knowing her.
Born on March 19, 1939, in Santiago, Chile, Sylvia embodied unwavering faith and lived her life guided by the principles of the Gospel. She dedicated herself to the service of God and the well-being of her community, and her life was a powerful testament to love, kindness, and dedication. Sylvia was renowned for her gentle spirit, her Christian wisdom, and her ability to offer comfort and support to those in need.
As an evangelical Christian, Sylvia lived each day with a steadfast belief in God's promises. Her steadfast commitment to the church and community shone brightly through her active participation in the ministry of visiting the sick. Sylvia did not merely preach the word of God; she lived it out, becoming a beacon of hope and light for those fortunate enough to be in her presence.
Sylvia was a devoted mother, sister, friend, and wife, whose affection for her family mirrored the unconditional love of Christ. She consistently offered her support, prayers, and wisdom to those around her, becoming a pillar of strength and peace for her loved ones.
In this time of mourning, Sylvia's family and friends find solace in the certainty that she is now in the presence of her Lord, enveloped in eternal joy where there is no suffering or sorrow. She lived with the hope of resurrection and leaves behind a legacy that serves as a testament to that hope.
She is survived by her cherished family, including Julia, Miguel, Jorge, and Patricia Lazo Herrada, along with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sylvia was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Sylvia Ivonne Lazo Herrada, who also holds a special place in the hearts of those who loved her.
The family invites all friends and loved ones to gather for a farewell ceremony tentatively scheduled for July 13, 2025, at 6:00 PM, at 17306 Virginia Avenue, Hagerstown, MD 21740. This time of prayer and reflection will honor Sylvia’s life, giving thanks to God for the precious time they were fortunate to share with her.
May the love and peace of God be with her family during this difficult time. Sylvia Alicia Herrada Ibacache now rests in the arms of her Savior, embracing the promise of eternal life that Jesus bestowed upon us.
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” (Matthew 5:8)
