Nelson Lee Cooper, affectionately known as “Flute,” peacefully transitioned to be with the Lord on November 24, 2025, at the age of 83.
He was born on May 18,1942, in Nashville, North Carolina to the late Chester Morris and Iretha C. Collins.
Nelson later relocated to Maryland, where he married his first love, Janet Garey. They shared 20 years of marriage before parting ways in 1986.
A devoted father, Nelson is lovingly remembered by his children: the late Deborah Parker (Don), daughters Michele Wallace (Toussaint), Kimberly Cooper, and son, John Jackson(Twann). He also leaves to cherish his memory by his younger brother, James "Jimmy" Collins(Regina), his sister, Patty Hall; nieces, Chavonne and Simone, nephew, Carl, grandchildren, Chayse, Daron, Crystal, Toussaint, Kendall, Kayla, Jordan, Lailah, Nickiem, Renee, Tyler, great grandchildren, Zariah and Brieaza, and a host of extended family members.
Nelson was a gifted mechanic who loved working on cars and took pride in helping others through his craft. He enjoyed the freedom of riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, a passion he held dear until his health declined. Nelson was affectionately named "Flute" by his Grandpa Walter Cooper because growing up, he was very skinny and was shaped like a flute. Those who knew him will remember his calm spirit, gentle nature, soft-spoken voice, and deep love for his children and family.
Nelson “Flute” Cooper leaves a legacy of quiet strength, love, and kindness. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
