James William Akin, affectionately known as Jimi, departed this world on May 23, 2025, in Montgomery Village, MD, surrounded by her beloved family. Born on October 26, 1952, in Dallas, TX, Jimi was a radiant soul whose big personality shone brightly in every room she entered. Her infectious laughter and vibrant spirit will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
Jimi dedicated her life to enjoying every moment and spreading that joy to others. As a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, she poured her heart into everything she did, ensuring that those around her felt the warmth of her love. Her greatest passion was helping animals, especially horses. Jimi's unwavering commitment to rescue and rehabilitation transformed countless lives, saving many equine souls from dire circumstances and finding them loving homes.
An avid lover of reading, Jimi would often immerse herself in cozy mysteries, sometimes devouring up to three books in a single day. She relished the simple joys of life, from movie nights filled with laughter and popcorn shared on the couch with her grandchildren to indulging in her favorite cartoons. Thanksgiving was a cherished time for Jimi—though she was not particularly fond of cooking, the warmth of family gatherings brought her immense joy.
Jimi's legacy is carried on by her loving daughter Jamie Clark, who partners in life with Austin McNamara, and her cherished granddaughters Kyla and Alannah McNamara. Together, they share countless memories of laughter, support, and adventure, reminding us all of the beautiful impact Jimi had on their lives and the lives of so many others.
In remembrance of Jimi, her family invites friends and loved ones to gather at Sandy Spring Friends School Meeting House on October 18, 2025, at 12pm, to honor her memory. As we come together, let us celebrate her life in whatever way brings us joy—whether it be donning our favorite funny t-shirts or dressing to the nines, the most important thing is to share our stories and memories of the extraordinary person she was.
Jimi is preceded in death by her beloved parents, James "Jim" Bolling and William "Billy" Akin, as well as her brother, John Akin. They, too, will forever hold a place in the hearts of those who loved them.
While Jimi has left this physical world, the spirit of her love, laughter, and kindness will continue to resonate in the hearts of her family and friends. As we remember her, let us carry forward her legacy of compassion and joy.
