Geraldine “Gerry” Lee Oehl, 93, of Darnestown, Maryland passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2024, at the home of her daughter Melissa Astill.

She was born on October 7, 1930, in Newport News, VA, and was the daughter of the late Stephen Koshinski and Ruby Kemp Parker.

She graduated from Newport News High School in 1947 and worked as a secretary at Ft. Eustis, VA where she met her husband, Richard Oehl (married 1956-1997). They later moved to Silver Spring, MD and then to Darnestown, MD with their 3 daughters where Gerry was a homemaker.

Gerry was a cat lover and owned many cats throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed classic movies and classic cocktails, her favorite being the martini. She was a fan of mid-century modern home design, art, and architecture and loved to decorate her home with art that she collected over the years.

She is survived by her daughters Catherine Hoyt (James) of Great Cacapon, WV; Brenda Sperbeck (David) of Gaithersburg, MD and Melissa Astill (Brian) of Darnestown, MD; her grandchildren Matthew Sperbeck (Sarah), Brittany Sperbeck, and Cara Oehlert (Russell); her great-granddaughter Alyssa Sperbeck; her sister Victoria Watson of Newport News, VA; and her nieces Deborah Phipps, Jennifer Lewis and Suzanne Burrell.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Barbara Lewis; step-sister, Anna Jewell, and step-niece Marion McKinnon.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family suggests donations be made to the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice in her name.
