In Loving Memory of

Catherine Lynn Jenkins

August 14, 1951 - March 28, 2025

Catherine Lynn Jenkins, a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and dedicated teacher, passed away on March 28, 2025, in Alexandria, Virginia, at the age of 73.

Born on August 14, 1951, in Washington, D.C., Cathy was the cherished daughter of the late Ivan Enoch and Mary Catherine Jenkins. She grew up in Alexandria and graduated from Thomas A. Edison High School before earning her bachelor's degree in education from Radford University.

After college, Cathy began her career in public service with the Environmental Protection Agency, where her work was recognized with a commendation. Yet it was in the classroom where she truly found her calling. For more than 25 years, she devoted herself to teaching third and fourth grade in Arlington County. Known for her compassion and dedication, Cathy created a nurturing and inspiring learning environment where her students could thrive. Her tireless commitment was honored with a Teacher of the Year award—an acknowledgment of the lasting impact she had on countless young lives.

Cathy’s generosity extended far beyond her professional life. For over two decades, she led a holiday gift initiative to ensure that children in need within her community received gifts during the holidays—an annual tradition that exemplified her selfless spirit and deep care for others.

Family was the heart of Cathy’s world. She was a loving daughter, a devoted sister, and a nurturing aunt who treasured time spent with her nieces and nephew. Her legacy is one of love, compassion, and unwavering support.

Cathy was preceded in death by her father, Ivan Enoch Jenkins; her mother, Mary Catherine Jenkins; her sister, Brenda Gaye Jenkins; and her brother-in-law, Dale Byron Newville. She is survived by her sisters, Pamela Jean Jenkins and Sheilah Jenkins Newville; her nephew, Nathan (Tiffany) Byron Newville; her nieces, Nicole (Jeffrey) Newville Rodgers, Grace Ann Newville, and Amanda (Parker) Newville Culver; her great-nephew, Jack Byron Newville; and her great-niece, Isla Jean Newville.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Central Union Mission - Operation Christmas Miracle to help supply Christmas gifts to thousands of underprivileged children and youth in the DC Metro area, a cause close to Cathy’s heart.

A celebration of Cathy's life is being planned. The family will share details once arrangements are finalized.

Though she is no longer with us, Cathy’s kindness, dedication, and love will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to know her.
