Alfred (Al) Horner, 83, of Columbia, Maryland passed away on June 18, 2026, after a long and fulfilling life. He leaves to cherish his memory, his adoring wife of 63 years, Alice Horner.
Alfred was born to Ray and Esther Horner of New Haven, Connecticut on May 30, 1943, and is one of 7 children. He is survived by his sister, Antoinette Dunston, of New Haven, Connecticut. Al was predeceased by his siblings, Harriet Bonner, Ray Horner, Esther Mason, Verlene Horner and William Horner.
After graduating from high school, Al served 21 years in the Air Force and worked for the Federal Government thereafter until his retirement. Al was a beloved friend to many and a true gentleman. He loved watching Yankee baseball and was a loyal fan of the Denver Broncos. He enjoyed fishing and traveling with Alice and his family.
He will be lovingly remembered by his children; Dawn Horner of Boston, Tony (Claudia) Horner of Chesapeake, VA, Warren (Casey) Horner of Niskayuna, NY and Jonelle Pitt of Chesapeake, VA. He was dear to his grandchildren, Rachel Horner of Chesapeake, VA, Madison and Jackson Horner of Niskayuna, NY. as well as a host of nieces and nephews. The warmth and joy felt for years of Thanksgiving traditions he upheld will live on in the hearts of his family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Al’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
A celebration of Alfred’s life will be held at K. Council Funeral Home in New Haven, Connecticut on August 7, 2026
