Gaithersburg, MD

Albertha Marie Hewitt, a remarkable individual, was born on November 15, 1940, and peacefully passed away on September 20, 2025. With a spirit that embodied resilience and determination, she made her mark through her dedicated career and enriching personal interests.

Albertha's professional journey began as a secretary at the Rockefeller Foundation, where she worked diligently for seven years. Her passion for service and detail led her to transition into the federal government, where she contributed her skills at the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare as an accounts payable clerk. Her professionalism and commitment didn’t go unnoticed, resulting in a well-deserved promotion to accounts payable specialist at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). Though illness ultimately forced her to retire early, her unwavering spirit shone through as she navigated her challenges with grace.

Outside of her professional commitments, Albertha cherished her passion for reading, always eager to expand her knowledge until lupus impaired her vision. In her later years, she adapted to changing times and became an enthusiastic user of social media platforms like YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, finding joy and connection through modern technology.

Albertha is survived by her loving family: her sister, Lori Francis; her son, David Hewitt; her daughters, Karen Hewitt and Joyce Hewitt (daughter-in-law); her son, Gregory Hewitt; her niece, Kenya Edwards; and her cherished grandchildren, Daniel Hewitt and Kiana Hewitt. She was predeceased by her mother, Mamie Ferguson, and her brothers Richard Hannah and Stacy Ferguson, along with her sister, Vernell Ferguson.

Her legacy of resilience, love, and enthusiasm for learning will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing her. Albertha Marie Hewitt will be deeply missed, yet fondly remembered for the meaningful impact she had on the lives around her.
