Carl John Carlson, Jr.

April 30, 1944 — August 9, 2023

Sadly, our brother, Carl John Carlson, Jr. (CJ), passed away after battling several illnesses. Carl was born at home in Gallitzin, Pa. to Thelma Carlson and Carl Carlson. As a toddler he lived in Hawaii while his father was stationed at U.S Army Schofield Barracks. He returned to the Mainland where the family settled down in the Baltimore area ending up in Linthicum, Md where he spent his younger years.

Carl graduated from Brooklyn Park High School in 1962 where he was a member of the high school band playing trumpet at which he excelled. In addition to the trumpet he also played the piano. After high school he went to work for Westinghouse Electric Corporation working in the mail room. Carl furthered his education and attended Anne Arundel Community College. He later became a welder and had his own business, “Arc Ace Welding” and taught welding at Montgomery College. Carl was a “free spirit” and for a few summer seasons ran his own T-Shirt shop in Ocean City, MD, “Krazy Carls.” Carl was an intelligent man with many interests and diverse skills with a flair for entrepreneurship.

Carl was a long-time resident of Gaithersburg, MD. He enjoyed auto racing, often traveling to Watkins Glen, NY for races; was a founding member of the Brookshire Car Club; collecting tools; working on improvement projects and teaching welding which absolutely brought joy to his life. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a good person with a big heart.
